The COVID-19 pandemic has caused educational institutions, including Dickinson State University (DSU), to adopt new methods in order to continue delivering instruction to their students. From continuing in-person instruction with precautions in place, to shifting to online and hybrid modes of teaching, instructors have learned many new technologies. These new methods of delivery have helped students to navigate the constraints the pandemic has caused. When other methods of instruction are available, student learning becomes more flexible and opens up different ways of integration into an instructor’s lecture.

Tell us about your life before you came to Dickinson State University (DSU).

I’m from Bridger, Montana, but I graduated from Laurel High School in Laurel, which is about 30 miles away from Bridger. I have two sisters, one older and one younger. If you are a middle child, you know the struggle.

The Hickok fam. Colter’s on the left.

Tell us a little about your life before you came to Dickinson State University (DSU).

Before I was at DSU, I went to Dickinson High School (DHS). At DHS, I was in Student Council where I was a class representative, class president, and student body vice president. I have lived in Dickinson all my 18 years of life and I have loved it every second of the way. My family and friends are here, and I don’t anticipate leaving anytime soon.

How they’re going to pay for a college education is usually one of the first questions students ask themselves when deciding to pursue a degree. They often seek out scholarships and grant funding in order to lessen their financial load rather than taking on additional debt, and one organization in Western North Dakota is helping several Dickinson State University (DSU) students do just that. The Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation (TRMF) has awarded scholarships to five DSU students who interned for them during the summer season and demonstrated hard work and dedication.
