Fifty-eight Dickinson State University (DSU) students presented their achievements in research, humanities, and the arts during the 2022 Celebration of Scholars event Saturday, April 30, at the Biesiot Activities Center and DSU Agriculture Building on the DSU campus. Students presented their scholarly work to an audience of peers, faculty, and community members through either an oral or poster presentation.

High schoolers play at DSU for Northern Plains Music Festival
Ninety-one students from 17 Southwest North Dakota and Montana high schools participated in the 64th Annual Northern Plains Music Festival (NPMF) at Dickinson State University (DSU). The event took place Nov. 12-13, culminating in a concert by the honor band and two choirs at the end of the second day.

63rd annual Northern Plains Music Festival at DSU held virtually
Near the end of every fall semester, the Department of Arts and Letters hosts about 200 high school musicians on the Dickinson State University (DSU) campus for two days of musical practice and learning during the Northern Plains Music Festival (NPMF). This year, the department was not able to welcome students to the campus for a traditional festival experience, but, as the saying goes, “The show must go on!”

Wohletz participates in opportunities to teach and collaborate remotely
While music concerts and camps across the world have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, many musical instructors are still working to normalize the situation for their students. Dickinson State University Department of Fine & Performing Arts Co-Chair and Associate Professor of Music, Dr. Jeremy Wohletz, was to teach for the third time at International Music Camp in the International Peace Gardens this summer. Although this summer’s camps were canceled, several of the instructors, including Wohletz, agreed to host workshops for the students via Zoom. “Camp is always a lot of fun and I’ll really miss it. It was so great to have some familiar faces in my Zoom session,” said Wohletz. His topic was on learning scales through improvisation.

Dr. Jeremy Wohletz, associate professor of music and co-chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, recently performed at both Valley City State University and Mayville State University. In addition to his performance, he also conducted a masterclass for the students at both locations.
