From the Hawks’ Nest: DSU’s New MBA Program3 min read

September 28, 2021

“From the Hawks’ Nest” is a monthly column written by Dickinson State University President Steve Easton for The Dickinson Press.

As the school year moves into full swing, Dickinson State University (DSU) continues its positive momentum.

We recently received notice that the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) gave Dickinson State the approval to offer a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). At the same time, HLC, our regional accrediting agency, named the University a “Master’s degree-granting institution.”

The MBA’s focus will be on preparing business-minded individuals for dynamic industry environments. Our emphasis will be on productive and critical thinking, as well as decision making. DSU will prepare students with skills to innovate, collaborate, and lead effectively and efficiently.

Admission to the MBA program in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Dickinson State University requires a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or its equivalent from a school in another country. As is DSU’s custom, we will be offering this program at a very reasonable cost, with full tuition for those from North Dakota and other western states just over $10,000.

The MBA will be offered in an online modality from our highly qualified and experienced faculty. The accessibility and convenience of this program will target working adults, traditional and non-traditional students, as well as those who aspire to advance in their careers and continue their education.

As part of Dickinson State University’s dual mission goals, the MBA program is an ideal way for learners to contribute to the economy of North Dakota and heighten their quality of life as either an employee or an entrepreneur. The School of Business and Entrepreneurship is known throughout the region as “the destination” for entrepreneurs.

The addition of the MBA program aligns with the North Dakota University System’s goal: “Deliver degrees that are the best value in the nation; provide programs people want, where and when they need them; equip students for success.” Even those employed full-time will be able to pursue the program.

You can join the first cohort of the MBA program as early as October 18, 2021. If you are interested, please contact us at (701) 483-2175 or dickinsonstate.edu/admissions.

As a master’s degree-granting institution, Dickinson State University will continue to pursue opportunities to add new graduate programs that are in demand in our region. In particular, we are looking forward to continuing to be a positive force in addressing a critical need for educators. DSU currently offers a Master of Art in Teaching, which allows content experts, such as those with undergraduate degrees in chemistry, to receive training that will lead to licensure, allowing them to become secondary chemistry teachers.

Our plan is to add a master’s program for those licensed as teachers, with an emphasis on elementary education. Stay tuned for an announcement regarding this addition to our more than 80 degree and certificate programs.

Our campus is buzzing with other activities, as well. Alumni and other supporters are welcome to participate in DSU Homecoming. Homecoming events include: the Blue Hawk Stampede Rodeo September 30 to October 2; junior varsity volleyball October 6, 7, and 8; varsity volleyball October 7 and 8; the Alumni Fellows & Honorees Banquet October 7; the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet (featuring an Olympic gold medalist and other outstanding Blue Hawk alumni) and Homecoming Concert October 8; and the Homecoming parade and football game October 9. We hope to see you at some or all of these events.
