Josh Nichols, esports coordinator for Dickinson State University (DSU), recently completed level four certification from the National Association of Esports Coaches and Directors (NAECAD). Level four certification focused on student success, including mental health and involvement in the community, among other topics.

The NAECAD Certification Program provides quality, accessible professional development for competitive esports coaches and directors. The curriculum and assessments are created to help esports coaches and directors attain a level of learning and proficiency in four topics: program philosophy; organization and administration; player growth and development; and student success.

“Though esports has been around for a while, the collegiate scene is only just getting started,” said Nichols. “As an early adopter of varsity level play, Dickinson State University is navigating largely uncharted waters. Continuing to grow professionally in this space is essential to building a successful program and maintaining a competitive edge as others jump on this fast moving train.”
