Meet Sagan Osborne ’18, DSU’s new professional advisor and career development specialist.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am originally from Anchorage, Alaska. I work here at DSU as the career services specialist/professional advisor and am also an assistant coach for the baseball team. I graduated from DSU in 2018 with my degree in exercise science – sports management and am currently working towards my master’s in athletic education leadership at DSU. I played baseball here for 2 years after spending time at Utah Valley University and Treasure Valley Community College. I met my wife at DSU, and we have lived here since we got married.

What are some of your hobbies?

I spend my free time mostly playing sports and hanging out with my friends. I play golf, softball, volleyball, basketball, and football in my spare time. I also enjoy movies and video games.

Do you have any family in the area?

Most of my family is pretty spread out, but my parents are still in Alaska as my dad is a college basketball coach. I have four younger siblings, two brothers (26 and 23) and two sisters (18 and 20). Unfortunately, none of my family lives anywhere close to North Dakota!

What do you want students to know about your position?

I want this position to be one that really enhances the student experience here at DSU. I am here to help them find that next step after college, whether it’s grad school or a job. I’m here to help them find jobs while they’re still students and help them find internship opportunities if that is something they want. I’m here to provide as much support as possible when it comes to a student’s job and career. That can include things like resume reviews, mock interviews, and job research. Handshake is a great platform that we just recently launched to our students, and it’s something that I am really excited about educating the campus community about.

Do you have any advice for students?

Don’t be afraid to take chances. Go out and do the things that are offered on campus, and if there isn’t something that you are interested in, let someone know, because we want to make sure everyone has the best experience possible here at DSU. I also encourage students to stop by my office and see what we can do to help them prepare for their future and help them out with their present as well.

Is there anything else you want students to know about you?

Feel free to stop by my office (May, 209C) at any time. I love getting to meet new students and will happily help you out!

Spread the love
