Odyssey leases space at DSU for temporary theatre1 min read

December 5, 2018

Odyssey Entertainment, Inc. (Odyssey) and Dickinson State University (DSU) signed a lease today allowing Odyssey to use space in the Student Center on the DSU campus. The University has been in conversation with Odyssey for a few months and is pleased to announce the project is moving forward.

Before signing the lease, the University conducted an internal survey of faculty, staff and students.

“It was important to the University that we first understand our campus needs,” said DSU President Dr. Thomas Mitzel. “Overall, the input from the campus was supportive.”

“There were some concerns that needed to be addressed,” said Marty Parsons, vice president for finance and administration at DSU. “The University worked with legal counsel and the City of Dickinson to make sure that the project was sound before we moved forward.”

Odyssey announced today that construction of a new Twin Cinema would begin on campus with a projected opening date later this month. The cinema will be inside the Student Center and will feature stadium seating and all electric power luxury recliners.

The theatre, to be known as “Odyssey University Cinema,” is in addition to Odyssey’s new state-of-the-art event style cinema the “Dakota Grand 8” which will commence construction in downtown Dickinson this spring.

“We felt it was important to keep a theatre available to our patrons of Dickinson and the possibility of working with the fine folks at DSU to make it happen is a great opportunity for both Odyssey and DSU,” said Gary Westmark, vice president of operations for Odyssey Theatres.
