Albers Humanities Festival 2019: “Post Apocalypse Now”2 min read

Dickinson State University (DSU) invites the community to attend the 2019 Albers Humanities Festival titled “Post Apocalypse Now,” April 11 – 12 on the DSU campus.

The Albers Humanities Festival is a biannual celebration of the liberal arts in honor of Everett C. Albers, the first of the North Dakota Humanities Council directors.

The festival will consist of panel presentations, a film screening and costume contest. The full schedule is as follows:

Thursday, April 11 – Murphy Hall, Thompson Auditorium room 155

  • 4 p.m. Panel

“After the End: Generation Z Takes on World War Z and Other Dystopian and Post Apocalyptic Worlds”

DSU students: Colton Damjanovich, Dylan Gonser, Suzanna Moberg, and Logan Wagoner

  • 7 p.m. Panel

“It Can Happen Here”

Discussion with local first responders

Friday, April 12 – Murphy Hall, Thompson Auditorium room 155

  • 4 p.m. Keynote Presentation

“The Value of ‘Thinking Horror’: Reflection and Contemplation within Dark Fiction”

Dr. Gavin Hurley, University of Providence

  • 7 p.m. Contest and Film

“Dress to Stay(in’) Alive” and “Dead Still Walking”

Costume contest followed by a screening of the 1968 classic and original zombie flick, Night of the Living Dead. Come as a group or as a lone survivor from your favorite post apocalyptic, dystopian, and/or zombie movie, TV show, game, and/or book.

Costumes will be judged on creativity, authenticity, and aesthetics. Members of the Albers Committee and audience will serve as judges.

All events are free and open to the public and are sponsored by Dickinson State University, the Department of Language and Literature, and the Albers Humanities Institute.
